Howard Audrey Classic Contemporary Authors Books : The Juniper Bush

The Juniper Bush

perfect - this book is perfect. it is my favourite novel ever, i have read every single audrey howard novel to date - this was the third one i read - and it is by far her best. i adore this book. i have read it so many times the pages have come away from the cover. buy it, you will not be dissapointed. the storyline never stops turning, by the end of the book you will be crying tears of happiness.

A manageable epic - I read this book a few years ago but still find myself picking it up and reading the highlights. It has a sweeping feel of Gone With The Wind. The characters and dilemmas thrown in their way have a real and believable quality that you can easily loose yourself in.

From the cover....... - The passionate saga of a nineteenth-century Lakeland girl, and her search for happiness in a web of conflicting emotions and loyalties.Lovely Christy Emmerson is the only daughter of an explosives manufacturer and a fine catch for any man. But there is only one man Christy cares about, and when she becomes betrothed to the Squire s son, Robin, it seems that all concerned are happy. But with only a few weeks to go before the wedding, tragedy strikes the community and the Emmerson family. Apparently abandoned by Robin at a time when she needed him most, Christy, heartbroken and confused, falls into a marriage with a local mine owner, the handsome but arrogant Alex Buchanan. As her family grows, Christy becomes increasingly wrapped up in her new life and almost succeeds in forgetting Robin Then, one day, she meets him again and her whole world is thrown into confusion.WINNER OF THE 1988 ROMANTIC NOVEL OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Audrey Howard writes another wonderful story - Having read every one of Audrey Howard s book and enjoyed them all, I have to list this one as one of my favourites. The main characters, Alex and Christy, are so real and true to their times. The twisting plots, wonderful secondary characters all came to life under Audrey Howard s masterful talent. I laughed and cried reading this book. The powerful ending left me speechless. I heartily recommend this book.

Wonderful read - I really enjoyed this novel, which is complex and enthralling. It tells the story of how two people grow together and realise their true feelings for each other. The beginning was really surprising, but one can immediately understand why Alex is attracted to Christy. He is portrayed as a man with a hard exterior, a decent man who has no place for his heart in his well ordered life. You can understand why Christy finds him difficult to get to know and why she still clings to her first love. The scenes of the miners life are well drawn, as are those of the servants, and you can understand why they feel loyalty and love towards their betters. The anti hero is callous and cruel, and really deserved his comeuppance!
